The beginning of summer, the wide range of cultural events and the São João celebrations make June an ideal month to visit Porto.
At this time of year the arrival of the warm weather brings with it pleasant temperatures that invite you to explore the city on foot, enjoy a great tasting meal on an outdoor terrace, or drink a glass of excellent wine on the riverside.
During June the city is brimming with open air urban markets and artisan fairs.
The Mercadinho dos Clérigos, in downtown Porto (last Saturday of every month in the afternoon), and the Feiras Francas at the Palácio das Artes Fábrica de Talentos in the historical center (last Saturday of every month, all day) are two examples of markets that you can visit during this time of year.
By night there are countless fresh fish restaurants to choose from. In Matosinhos during the Festa do Mar, all of the restaurants set up open air seating areas in the streets.
If you happen to be in Porto on 23rd and 24th of June, you will have the chance to take part in the city’s largest festival: the São João celebrations.
São João is a cultural symbol of Porto, marked by fireworks, dancing, herbs and grilled sardines.
